My property journey started a little differently from most people, I began my journey whilst studying for a degree in architecture at NTU. 

When I left university in 2011 the construction industry was on its knees due to the back end of the recession, because of this it was near impossible to get a job within an architects’ practice. So after looking at all other available alternatives I decided to get a job within estate agency. I didn’t work there for long but I managed to make friends with some of the local investors, when I left I made sure I kept it touch with them. I moved to a surveying role within a building and renewable company where I attended site surveys and quoted for extensions or refurbishments.

I was then approached by one of the investors I had met at the estate agency and was offered a job as a property sourcer within his portfolio building company. I snapped his arm off and it was at that company that I began building my own portfolio within Nottingham. 

The projects consisted of mostly single lets, however we did purchase a few large blocks of flats, one of which was a pub conversion, that project was allocated to me to project manage and with that my role developed, I began playing a part in the project management of the projects, especially the HMO’s.

Whilst working within that company I sourced over 300 deals for “armchair investors” I then played a major role in the management of at least 120 of those projects seeing them from purchase through to snagging and handover.

In 2016 I brought my first HMO within Nottingham and began growing my portfolio more aggressively using joint ventures and investor finance. I now control 102 rooms within my portfolio of which only 15 have been acquired using R2R and PLO models.

In 2017 I created JMI holdings to build and develop my own portfolio. JMI’s mission is to create high-end rental homes for professional and student tenants within Nottingham and Derby.

In 2018 I was a top 5 performer on Simon Zutshis mastermind program and selected as a finalist for the property awards for investor of the year and HMO deal of the year. I have also been lucky enough to be featured within many of the property industry’s leading media outputs, such as the inside property investing podcast, your property network magazine, Tej talks and I am an article writer for the HMO magazine.
